Nash Amblers

Amblers squad has been re-drawn for the 2019/20 season. Here’s a subjective profile of the players who’ll be  lining up in red….

Denis Cudahy (Goalkeeper) who hails from Horwich and had a successful season with the Bees last timeout. Also an F.A. accredited Referee . Denis is an imposing figure between the sticks and is quick to get down to those low shots and drives that come his way.

John Smith (player/manager) A Liverpudlian and former Egghead teammate who knows his football and the walking variant. Has managed teams at Heywood. At six foot plus he’s a big game player and scored a hat trick in one of the Amblers matches last season. Never afraid to try a shot.

Steve Foster. John’s right hand man, trusted lieutenant and pre-draw pick. A quality defender who demands high standards on the pitch. Helped hold the Denton Wednesday team together last season but will look upon this move to Amblers as a very positive one.
  •  – – – –
Trevor Brereton. The first of two prolific marksmen in the Amblers squad. A high energy player in his later fifties now Trevor is an excellent ball winner and distributor. Always willing to lash a shot goalward. If they are on target the power is usually there to trouble goalkeepers.
  • – – – –
Steve Wingrove. Another big presence in this interesting looking line-up. Steve is happiest when holding the ball and three touch presents a challenge but he responded to it last time out. A scorer of goals with a fierce shot that once again, if on target , usually ends up in the back of the net. A Strider last season, he could benefit from this move where he lines up with former Heywood team mates.
  • – – – –
Alan Brodie. A real worker willing to play in all areas. Will walk all day for the cause. Scores goals now and again too, and hs versatility will be a boon for the squad management. Alan lined up for the struggling Striders last season but will should flourish in a better team.
  • – – – –
Peter Jarvis. If he can stay injury free Peter will prove a thorn in the side of opponents. A mobile player who is equally at home in the middle of the defence or moving forward where he scores some fine goals in internal sessions. An Ambler last season too, narrowly missing out on the league title in their final game.
  • – – – –
Steve Johnson. Something of an unknown quantity to the squad management. Steve, from Glossop is a regular at Denton in the Under 67 hour. Pace is his strongpoint but he will have to reign that in a little in this Fair Play League. A combative man who likes to win and win well. Often found on the right flank but moves inside to good effect. A tenacious ball winner.
